🗣 Alex Veitch: "The Government’s commitment to a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF) mandate is welcome and vital to support a greener aviation industry in the UK. The BCC’s recent Green Innovation report recognises the potential of domestic production of SAF for the UK. The Government and industry should continue to work closely together to support the development of a UK SAF industry to ensure that its full potential can be met." 👇 https://lnkd.in/euM79iHe

It was wonderful to get together with CEOs across the UK Chamber Network yesterday, to discuss key topics such as improving skills and tackling labour shortages. We were delighted to have our Chair, Sarah Howard MBE and Director General Shevaun Haviland in attendance, as well as guest speaker Gillian Keegan MP, Secretary of State for Education, who outlined the work her department is doing to improve access to skills and discussed the role of business in developing workforces of the future. Chambers of Commerce are leading the development of Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIPs) across much of England and the network is playing a leading role in bringing employers and training providers together to tackle skills shortages. Thank you to Gillian Keegan MP and Chamber CEOs for joining us yesterday. We look forward to connecting further with our UK and international network at our Global Annual Conference 2024, taking place on 27 June at the QEII Centre in London. Thank you Gillian Keegan for joining us yesterday. Chambers are very proud of their involvement in Local Skills Improvement Plans. And you hit the nail on the head - the collaboration between education and business is crucial!
Working in international business for 30 years, I know just how important the collaboration between education and business is. After all, it's only by giving our young people the knowledge and skills that they need that our businesses can get the high-quality workforce they need to thrive. That's why we've completely transformed our country's skills system - helping people from all across the country to get the education they deserve. Here's some of what we've done 👇 1. We've built a new apprenticeship system from the ground-up. Now, nearly 70% of occupations are accessible via an apprenticeship, and over 5.8 million people have benefitted from this opportunity to learn, upskill or retrain. 2. We've introduced T Levels, Skills Bootcamps and Higher Technical Qualifications to give young people the high-quality technical qualifications they need to succeed in life. 3. We're cracking down on rip-off degrees which are a waste of both individuals' and taxpayers' money - and have removed the arbitrary target we inherited of getting 50% of people into university. 4. We have introduced Local Skills Improvement Plans across every area of England - bringing employers and further education providers together at a local level to address the technical skill gaps. 5. And we've exceeded our promise to deliver 20 Institutes of Technology across England - with our 21st opening this September. IOTs are helping young people access high-quality, higher-level technical education and training across a range of STEM occupations and industries. But all of these brilliant programmes rely on business, education and government working together - and this is exactly what I am focused on delivering. It was fantastic to talk with the British Chambers of Commerce today about how we can continue this journey and nurture the next generation of talent. #Education #Business #Skills #SkillsForLife #Apprenticeships #TLevels #SkillsBootcamps #TechnicalEducation #InstitutesofTechnology #LSIPs
