It's been another eventful week at the BCC ✨ Earlier this week, our Director General, Shevaun Haviland, Director of Membership UK & International, Anne-Marie Martin FCMI, and Head of Trade Policy, William Bain, met with the Japanese Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Mr Hajime Hayashi, at his residence. They had a very worthwhile discussion focusing on opportunities arising from UK entry to CPTPP, raising bilateral trade and investment, and Expo 2025 in Osaka. Anne-Marie Martin FCMI and William Bain also met with Shadow Secretary for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds MP, at Westminster to discuss a range of key trade issues for members such as Labour’s proposed White Paper on Trade, relations with the US, China, India, the EU, trader support services and future Network delivery and outputs in these areas. On Wednesday, we held the inaugural BCC President's Lunch at the UK House of Lords, hosted by Martha Lane Fox, with guest speaker Priya Lakhani OBE. It was wonderful to see so many UK and Global Chamber representatives come together. We look forward to seeing them all again at our Global Annual Conference, taking place on 27 June. Tickets here: https://lnkd.in/exKH75wY Yesterday, Shevaun Haviland spent the day with Tudor Price and Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce meeting members and discussing the investment at our borders. They visited notable sites including the Port of Dover and the Eurotunnel and met with Port of Dover CEO, Doug Bannister, Getlink Regional Affairs Manager, Natalie Benville, and Getlink Chief Corporate and Public Affairs Officer John Keefe. They ended the evening at the University of Kent with Deputy Vice-Chancellor Shane Weller and 60 chamber members for the Kent Invicta Chamber Business Leaders Dinner. #WhereBusinessBelongs

Fantastic to have Shevaun Haviland in the room for this. Many Chamber #businesses are SMEs and are the first to notice stress in #supply #chains, allowing them to act as a canary in the coal mine. The Chamber Network also have huge experience in building supply chains for critical national #infrastructure and are perfectly place to help embed more resilience into the system. Onwards and upwards!
Meet the members of our new Critical Imports Council 👇 Chaired by Alan Mak MP today marks the Council's first meeting as it works to help secure resilient supply chains and safeguard the flow of critical goods into the UK. Read more: https://lnkd.in/er-_ZhDE

We recently launched four new reports, led by the BCC Business Council as part of our Future of the Economy project, tapping into expertise from firms of all sizes and sectors, academia and think-tanks. Our Green Innovation🌱 report outlines a series of proposals for policymakers, to help accelerate the UK's transition to net-zero. Recommendations include: A new public body to oversee delivery of core climate policies, strengthened resources for independent Climate Change Committee and a robust Green Industrial Strategy from Government. Our People Work🏙 report calls for better skills planning at a national, local, employer and individual level, including longer term investment in Local Skills Improvement Plans. Recommendations include: An industrial strategy that is fit for purpose, funding a business support service to help employers identify, plan and invest in workforce skills and more investment to make careers information, education and guidance a mainstream priority for school leaders. Our Local Economy of the Future📈 report sets out 16 policies that could transform the UK’s growth potential by empowering businesses, communities and local government. Recommendations include: Devolving more powers to regional and local government so decision-making is closer to the issues, and giving the National Infrastructure Commission real teeth to influence long-term strategy. Our Global Britain🌍 report includes proposals with two aims; to raise the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the United Kingdom and to increase the amount of goods and services we export. Recommendations include: The creation of a ‘Team UK’ to champion an updated ‘Brand Britain’ and show the world the best of what we can offer, and a change in mindset, so the UK takes a more vigorous approach to fighting for its future success. Stay tuned for our final launch... Find out more👉 https://ow.ly/l2XU50QAyxp #FutureoftheEconomy #WhereBusinessBelongs
