A growing population and rising urbanisation will tip many regions into increasing the water stress situation, which can be exacerbated by drought as witnessed in Cape Town this year and Sao Paulo a few years ago.
Water efficiency in our homes and businesses is one of the key measures in draft Water Resources Management Plans of the Water Utilities in England. They are working closely with organisations like Waterwise to promote the benefits and highlight the risks of not doing so.
But we need to be more ambitious, utilise innovative solutions, and approach this challenge strategically to achieve a more ambitious water efficiency target. This is needed to help ensure there is enough water for people, the economy and the environment, both now and in the future.
